Tim’s Mucha/Terra Mash-Up

I’m about 95% sure this is done, so I’m posting it and going to sleep on it. Here’s a few process shots...

Loved trying to mimic the beautiful typography that Mucha used. He employed so many different styles it was tough to settle on one.

After I got to this point it took a lot of courage to start the inking on Terra.

It took another leap of faith to add color, but I did a high resolution scan at this stage just in case I ruined it.

Since I did some of the work on this live in a Google+ Hangout, I think you should all enjoy Terra’s love-letter to G+, Hangin’ Out

I used just about every drawing and painting tool in the kit for this image, including pencils, Micron pens, Pitt pens, watercolor pencils (w/wash), regular colored pencils, gold acrylic ink (w/nib pen) and Copic markers! I think it all paid off and I can’t wait to see what you guys do with it next!

Speaking of which...where does this get sent off to?

Mucha Book (Work in Progress)

So, I’m finally rolling on my Mucha book. Here’s a detail shot of the pencils to tide you over until I get the inks and colors done. (Hopefully by the end of the week)

I was inspired by Mucha’s famous posters of Sarah Bernhardt and thought I would try to update the look with a contemporary artist and choose the amazing singer, Terra Naomi. Check her out if you aren’t familiar with her. She has a gorgeous voice. (I love this version of the Leonard Cohen classic, Hallelujah)

Tim's Intro

Hey gang, I’m Tim, an artist and graphic designer living in northern New York State. I really love these kinds of collaborative art projects and have participated in several since I first saw the 1000Journals project years ago. I really love the Moly_X concept and even drove halfway across the country to see the exhibit that Marty (the project’s founder) put together in Minneapolis! You can see some images from the show on the Moly_X_Life blog. I also filmed several of the books on display there and you can find those on my YouTube channel.

I’ve had variable success with Moly_X but I’m hopeful for this group. I think we’ve got an exciting concept and as long as everyone communicates we should have a ton of fun. I chose Alphonse Mucha as my artist. His elegant Art Nouveau style has long been a favorite of mine and I’m hoping I can put an interesting 21st century spin on this master.
