Sample Rotation Chart

Hello all. Hope this is self-explanatory. You will mail to the person whose name is below your own. (Danika mails to Joey). I have started with West Coast USA and books move across the US and then to our two ladies in Brussels to minimize international shipping.

With 8 artists, we would only have one rotation. In a traditional moly, there are 30 pages. So if you're doing a small size that would give each artist a little over 3.5 pages. If you have a large one it holds 25 pages, so that would be about 3 each. Do we want a uniform size or let each artist choose his or her own book size? It's important to note that larger books may add to the shipping for each person that has to send it on. What would you all like to do? Last thing to vote on is our first ship date. It's almost Sept 1st. Does October 1st work for everyone? I recall that many of us have posted some unhappiness with poor communication and lost books. To be fair, we could post an image by Oct 1st. Once the person below you posts their picture, feel free to mail your book to them.

Site Notifications

I just set it up so everyone should get an email when anyone posts or comments on this blog. Please confirm with a comment that you received an email. It will help us stay organized.

Also , wasn't someone talking about making up a schedule in Excel for exchanging? That would be really helpful. I cant wait to get working on these books :)

Oh I also linked all our names to our flickr pages.

Barbara's intro : Pierre Alechinsky

Hi Everybody!!!

Trying to catch up coming back from some holidays!
I am really axcited about participating in this group!
So I wil introduce myself :
I am 39, living in Brussels, exercising as an architect doing conservation and restoration of monuments and art works and doing some art myself in my free time :)). I do mainly watercolor.
My Flickr page :
I am also in another moly exchange group that is working quite well :

As artist I hesitated a long time and finally choose Pierre Alechinsky :
I like his painting and the structure of his painting especially, with mostly the contrast of a coloured paint in the center of the artwork and then a "promenade" in the margin around the colors with a "story" in black ink like a cartoon. So feel free not necessarily to imitate his forms but you can use your own style of painting and make a story about your view of life in the Pierre Alechinsky structure style. Like for example his great painting of central park here above. Feel also free to make a collage! (he does it as well: mainly japanese paper on canvas for the promenades in chinese ink).

I would also like to propose for this particular moly theme to use the large folding moly? What do you think? I know it's more exxpensive to send probably...

Looking forward to start!

Tim's Intro

Hey gang, I’m Tim, an artist and graphic designer living in northern New York State. I really love these kinds of collaborative art projects and have participated in several since I first saw the 1000Journals project years ago. I really love the Moly_X concept and even drove halfway across the country to see the exhibit that Marty (the project’s founder) put together in Minneapolis! You can see some images from the show on the Moly_X_Life blog. I also filmed several of the books on display there and you can find those on my YouTube channel.

I’ve had variable success with Moly_X but I’m hopeful for this group. I think we’ve got an exciting concept and as long as everyone communicates we should have a ton of fun. I chose Alphonse Mucha as my artist. His elegant Art Nouveau style has long been a favorite of mine and I’m hoping I can put an interesting 21st century spin on this master.

You can find my work at my flickrstream, on my infrequently updated blog as well as Moly_X Portraits#2. I just joined Google+ as well and have been having fun posting about art and music and other random internet stuff.

Friday, August 12, 2011

Hello, everyone!

Just a note of introduction: my name is albina (you will see me as "outofhands" on various sites, like flickr). I live in Chicago area. You can find more info and also see my artwork and photos here:

I am happy with the new idea of different artists for different books, and think option 1 is the best -- it will give each book a very lovely cohesive quality. Since it appears that Klimt and Mucha were taken, I am calling dibs on Aubrey Beardsley (just google him if you are not familiar with his art and style).

I am with Joey on the e-mail notification set-up -- perhaps our moderator can set it up, it would be great to get updates without having to run to the blog all the time.

And one last thing, as preference goes, I would love to send moly books to someone in the US, as I had international destinations in 4 previous moly_x exchanges... That is if that can be arranged.

Looking forward to this exchange!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you very Mucha :)

Post & Comments

Hi Everyone,

First I want to introduce myself. I am Joey. I live in Seattle, Washington. I like to draw and paint. I also paint Murals when it is nice out (Seattle: it rains alot here). I have a blog of my drawings and other stuff @ . Check it out, it is good for a laugh. I am also a part of Moly_X_81 . I am excited about this exchange. It should be fun.

As for this blog, is it possible to set us all up for emails when there is a new post or comment. I would do it myself but I dont have access to it.

Hi everyone.
I see that Anna Denise has set up our blog. Since I will be leaving for vacation this weekend I wanted to make a quick introduction so that if you don't hear from me next week, you know I am still very interested in this group.

I am Melissa from Pennsylvania (USA). I'm a high school art teacher and currently participating in two other groups - mxportraits1 and molyx25 and am a moderator for some of the moly groups and the flickr group. Looking forward to getting to know everyone in this exchange. I'm pretty handy with excel and have made progress charts for some of the other groups to keep the artists organized. Will be glad to help out in this exchange in any way I can.

In the initial comments I had posted another artist's name, but I have been rethinking my selection. Currently thinking I would love to have everyone do an Eric Carle style entry in my book (does not have to be a child theme, however).

Be back in touch after August 20th.

Melissa (3MW)

Hello moly x-82!

Hi all,

I will make no long introduction - just want to say that we are now 8 and we can start ;)
"We" means:
- 3MW (Melissa, tell us pls where are you based);
- Barbara Luel (Belgium, Brussels);
- Belle_vue_ (Belgium, Brussels);
- Joey463 (Joseph are you from USA?);
- Outofhands (Albina, your country?);
- Prawnpiri (Ela, same question);
- Sajuri (Slovakia in profile?);
- Tim Clary (USA?).

We have to decide who will send moly to who.

But before sending we all have to decide on theme.

My proposal:

Option 1: we can choose 8 artists, 1 per participant and the moly of everyone will be done in the style of this artist. For example, I will choose Klimt and Tim will choose Moucha. That means that my moly will be dedicated to Klimt and all participants of this x-change will draw in my moly whatever they wants but trying make an imitation of style of Klimt. In the moly of Tim everyone has to draw in Moucha's style, etc.

Option 2: we still choosing 8 artist, 1 per participant, but then everyone is following only the style of chosen artist in the moly os other participants. For ex., Sajuri will choose Frida Kahlo and she will draw in style of Frida in all molies.

I'd rather like to take the 1st option because it's more difficult (you have to draw not only in style of your favorite artist but try to do well something you maybe don't like so much) and due to this more professional and more interesting. Mollies will be also more harmonic.

We can also think about theme (apart of style) - each will have his own theme for his moly or we can take 1 common theme and (if we choose option 1) check later how different same theme can be interpreted using different but known styles.

All your ideas are most than welcome!

I can only start the list of artist - to be completed / commented by you:
- Gustav Klimt;
- Alphonse Moucha;
- Frida Kahlo;....

So... will be waiting to your ideas, and we can't wait to get this ball rolling! :)

PS: I've already started with my book :)

Moleskine Exchange Group 82

This blog will follow the adventure of a group of artists around the world, in a Japanese fold Moleskine sketchbook exchange.

Each artist will set off with a small Japanese (accordian) folded Moleskine. Creating a drawing, collage, or painting, then send on to the next artist. Each artist will draw on a spread (2 or 3 pages) then send it on to the next artist. When the artists book is filled, it will be returned to the owner with images created by artist around the world. Each artist has a month to make an entry. The outcome will be a pleasant and surprising adventure, as artists are encouraged to interact and merge their art with others.

The concept:
1. The artists start with the Japanese fold Moleskine - Name, address, email address written in book.

2. Each artist gets 1 month to make a sketchbook entry, and mail it to the next person. The order is listed to the right.

3. Each artist will do 2-3 pages each round.

4. Artists are encouraged to interact with other images in the book. Please be respectful.

5. When the book is full, when one side of the unfolded book is filled, the book will be sent back to its original owner. That artist may continue by buying a new book and sending it to the next person.

6. If a person decides not to continue, she will simply keep her book when it comes back to her. She should email all of the participants to say she is not going to continue. We will decide, then, if we want to find a new person.

7. Please communicate regularly via email. Let each person know that you have received/sent the book. The goal is to have a dialogue. Any comments and questions are welcome.

More information on the original group can be found here.
